Wapuu is the adorable, unofficial mascot of WordPress. Originally created in Japan in 2011 by illustrator Kazuko Kaneuchi, Wapuu was designed to be a friendly, approachable character that embodies the open-source spirit of the WordPress community.

The little yellow creature—often seen hugging a big blue WordPress logo—has since become a beloved icon worldwide. Communities create their own local versions of Wapuu, customizing outfits, props, and themes to represent different cultures, events, and causes.

Whether appearing on stickers, t-shirts, or event swag, Wapuu adds a touch of fun and personality to WordCamps and other WordPress gatherings, reminding everyone that WordPress is not just software—it’s a global community.

Many of the individualized Wapuu images have been catalogued by James Tryon on his site wapu.us.
